Legislation Details
Bill Name: Do or Dye Act of 2025
Bill Number: HR-3722
Bill Author(s):
Legislative Session / Year: 2025
State: Federal
AVFCA Position: Support
Bill Synopsis: The "Do or Dye Act," aims to prohibit certain color additives from being used in or on food in the United States by deeming them unsafe and adulterated. "Qualified color additives," such as Citrus Red No. 2 and Orange B, will be considered unsafe for food use, making any food containing these adulterated under existing law. "Covered color additives," like Red No. 40, Yellow No. 5 and No. 6, Green No. 3, Blue No. 1, and Blue No. 2, are also included.

The bill's overall goal is to eliminate dangerous petroleum-based food dyes from products sold in the United States. HR-3722 will codify and expand upon the directive issued by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to phase out eight artificial dyes linked to serious health risks, particularly in children.
